How to clear the notebooks with duplicate names in OneNote?

Question:

OneNote sometimes suddenly has a few extra notebooks with duplicate names, how do I get rid of these extra notebooks?
 

Answer:

These notebooks that have the same name as other notebooks that appear out of nowhere are caused by a bug in OneNote's "Recent Used Notebooks" feature.
 

Solution:

In Windows desktop Office OneNote, “File” -> “Open” page:
Find "Recent" in the lower-right corner.
Right-click on any notebook in this location and click on the "Clear unpinned items" menu item in the pop-up menu.
This feature will clear up these cluttered notebooks.
